Walking 100-mile (±160 km) in 24 hours is not an everyday achievement, but a  challenge that only a few in the world complete. Join African Centurion as we embark on an endurance race aimed at testing personal perseverance, grit and one’s mental and physical capacity.

In 2016 South Africa was the first and still is the only African country to host a Centurion. 

Rumoured to be one of the biggest race walking events on both a national and international scale, the Centurion walk originated in 1911 in the United  Kingdom. This internationally recognised race takes place in New Zealand,  Australia and Britain, to name a few, with many competitors combining muscle, stamina and mental strength in order to complete the race.

This year our new location, Coetzenburg Stadium, is situated in the picturesque mountains of Stellenbosch and is built on one of the oldest wine lands in the country. It is a popular location for professional athletes to train in their off-season period and has hosted many Olympic Gold Medallists.

From this year onwards, African Centurion has a one ticket price, for local and international walkers within all the different categories. Special needs or challenged athletes are welcome to join this walk. Supporters can also buy a ticket, as they become an integral part of the race. Spectators can buy tickets on the day.

Accommodation

Participants can bring gazebo’s and tents. Set-up will be guided by a race crew member.

Facilities: 

Men's and women's ablutions within the stadium can be used by walkers and supporters.
